Andrew Williamson – Investment Director, CIC

Andrew joined Cambridge Innovation Capital from True North Venture Partners in Chicago where he was a partner in its $300m venture fund.  Previously he spent ten years leading materials science and semiconductor research in US government research laboratories, followed by managing director positions at Physic Ventures in San Francisco and MalibuIQ in Los Angeles.

Richard Gibson, investor & adviser

Richard is an investor, director and adviser to growth businesses. Richard played a leading role in the growth of SwiftKey, firstly as CFO and then as Executive Chairman, leading the investment rounds and subsequently working with the founders, executive team, board and shareholders on the acquisition by Microsoft in 2016.

Simon Calver – Head of BGF Venture Fund

Simon heads BGF’s £200m fund dedicated to earlier stage UK tech. Former LOVEFiLM CEO, leading growth from a series of small start-ups into a multi-million pound enterprise & negotiating successful sale to Amazon. Subsequently CEO of Mothercare, kick-starting turnaround plan to improve UK profitability & growth and accelerate international expansion.

Alex McCracken, MD Venture Services – Silicon Valley Bank

Alex works closely with the VC community and venture backed companies and leverages Silicon Valley Bank’s global network to help early and growth-stage businesses succeed. Alex has over 20 years’ experience financing technology companies at all stages of growth, and prior to joining Silicon Valley Bank, was an Investment Manager at TTP Ventures.

William Reeve – serial entrepreneur & investor

William Reeve co-founded LOVEFiLM.com (acquired by Amazon) and Secret Escapes and has helped grow numerous other success stories, including Graze.com, Zoopla and Evi Technologies (acquired by Amazon). He is currently Co-CEO of Hubbub.co.uk. William led discussion on ‘The problem with UK tech is a shortage of capital and talent: fact or fiction?’

David Cleevely CBE – serial entrepreneur & Chairman

David is a serial entrepreneur, investor, Chairman & Non-exec director with many years of experience founding, growing and advising technology companies. David is Chairman of CRFS & Cambridge Wireless and Co-founder and former Chairman of Cambridge Angels. David spoke about ‘The importance of team building to achieve scale.’

Darrin Disley, CEO & President – Horizon Discovery

Darrin is a life scientist who has been involved in the start-up and growth of a many business ventures. In 2012, he was named Business Leader of the Year at the European Life Science Awards and in 2014 listed Horizon Discovery Group plc on the LSE AIM market achieving a placement of $113 million, an all-time record for a life science company on AIM.

Stan Boland, CEO – Neul

A highly regarded entrepreneur, Stan has built two hugely successful technology businesses – Icera and Element 14 – to exit for a combined sale price of over $1billion. Prior to this, Stan was CEO of Acorn Group and a director of ARM. In 2013 Stan was appointed CEO of Neul, the Cambridge start up at the forefront of the Machine-to-Machine revolution.

Warren East CBE, technologist & former CEO of ARM

Warren retired as CEO of ARM in 2013, and is credited with building the Cambridge firm into one of the world’s most successful technology companies. Warren is on the boards of Dyson, Micron, BT & Rolls-Royce, was awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours list and has twice been named in Barron’s List of the World’s Top 30 CEOs (2011 & 2013).
