Having been educated at Cambridge University, I qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse, before working in the leisure industry and the private equity industry in London.

I broke my back in the mid-nineties in a racing accident and relocated to Suffolk. In 1997 I joined N W Brown & Co, initially working in corporate finance before becoming a Co-founder of The Cambridge Gateway Fund, an early stage technology fund.  I left The Cambridge Gateway Fund in 2005, and have since designed, raised and managed niche alternative tax efficient investments in bloodstock, racing, jewellery and fine wine.  I am a Trustee of the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust and The Wavertree Trust; a Director of Newmarket Racecourse and a member of the Jockey Club.

My role as Non-Executive Chair of Bailey Fisher follows a 40-year career at Deloitte, most recently as Head of the Entrepreneurial Business Team in Cambridge. Having joined Deloitte in 1975, I was promoted to Partner in 1984 and Senior Partner seven years later.  I stepped down as Senior Partner of the Cambridge office in 2007 to concentrate on growing the Entrepreneurial Business Team, working closely with a range of high-growth technology and life science ventures.

I hold other Non-executive positions with a Cambridge Life Sciences consulting firm and a regional law firm. I am Chairman of the Cambridge Music Festival; a Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for The Cambridge Arts Theatre; and a Trustee of two other arts related charities.
